Ar2json is a project mainly written in RUBY and SHELL, it's free.
ActiveRecord extension that uses the database to build a record's JSON representation
ar2json provides a to_json
method on an ActiveRecord::Relation object.
This method will return a JSON representation, in a String object, of
the resultset.
Why is this useful? Because the JSON is mostly outputed by your database engine.
User.scoped.to_json
and User.all.to_json
should return the same data structureIn the project's Gemfile add
gem 'ar2json'
Say Product is your model:
class Product < ActiveRecord::Base
end
If your database looks like this
+---------------------------------+
ID Name Color
---------------------------------
1 Foo blue
2 Bar red
3 Baz blue
+---------------------------------+
Product.where(:color => 'blue').to_json
will return
[
{ "id": "1", "name": "Foo", "color": "blue" },
{ "id": "2", "name": "Baz", "color": "blue" }
]
You can also tell to_json
to only use the columns you specify:
#=> Product.where(:color => 'blue').to_json([:id])
[
{ "id": "1" },
{ "id": "2" }
]
