blicker

Blicker is a project mainly written in Python, it's free.

A collection of scripts that screen-scrape venue websites, monitoring them for events

What is this?

This is an attempt to make a "screen scraper," or aggregator, of various sources of concert information in the greater San Francisco area. The idea is that we make a bunch of "fetchers," which might just grab an iCal feed from a venue's web site, or it might have to parse the HTML to figure out what's coming up on each venue's calendar.

What each fetcher does is turn the content into a common format: a JSON dictionary. These files will then be used an HTML document to render these all in one place.

"blicker?"

I needed a name, and came up with that on the spot. I like to think if the process of fetching an HTML page, parsing it, and figuring out the contents as "blicking," because it's a weird thing to do and needs a weird name.
