Fitz SCO Printer Monitoring App

Fitz SCO Printer Monitoring Page Originally by Michael Allan [email protected]

This script recieves forwarded emails from the printer monitoring system and logs them to a database, then provides the ability to mark the faults as:

  • Assigned, i.e. an SCO is on their way to fix the problem. This prevents the issue of several of us turning up to the library.
  • Cleared, i.e. the fault is resolved. This prevents the "the email came at 10am while I was at lectures, it's now 5pm so someone will have dealt with it". Both of these could be accomplished via the mailing list, but this would create a lot of email traffic and clearly provides to high a barrier to entry (or we'd do that already).

DME Alert emails are forwarded to mda39's SRCF email, where a procmail script uses curl to post them to the PHP application. They are then mined for the useful information and stored in a MySQL database. A second database table has a list of all printers used to generate the status report.

The webpage can then display the status of all the printers, and a list of the faults reported and when/if they were cleared.
