Rewrite-abstraction-layer is a project mainly written in PHP, it's free.
Makes editing mod_rewrites in htaccess files easier, and less error-prone
This is by no means stable, or tested!
When finished, this could provide an interface for writing rewrite data to htaccess files. (and others, in the future).
Quite a lot of code is still in a very early stage, and will need work.
