wikidiscography

Wikidiscography is a project mainly written in RUBY and JAVASCRIPT, it's free.

A true session-based discography database with a web front-end.

=The Wikidiscography Project This is a Rails 3.1 web application. It's aim is to be a session-based discography database that's easily searchable, and easy to contribute to (the "wiki" part).

==What is a discography?

  • http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Essays/obsess.htm
  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Rust
  • http://www.discogs.com/
  • http://musicbrainz.org/

==Why another online discography? Most of the online discographies I know of are simply lists of albums with a lot of information about each track, e.g. personnel, instruments, titles, length. Wikidiscography aims to be the fist online discography application to be based on sessions instead of albums. That means starting at the recording session itself instead of just listing album information. For more information, see www.wikidiscography.com/pages/about

==How to contribute In a nutshell, here's how to contribute to this site:

  1. Fork the repository
  2. Make changes to the code.
  3. Commit those changes and push them back to your fork.
  4. Send me a pull request.

When I see your pull request, I can merge in your changes, and push the updated site back to Heroku.
