WWW-Freshmeat is a project mainly written in Perl, it's free.

WWW-Freshmeat
This modules aims at automating searches for Free Software project entries in the Freshmeat.net directory. It is currently in very alpha stage, with very limited functionality (retrieving data for a project you already know of).
INSTALLATION
To install this module, run the following commands:
perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install
Alternatively, to install with Module::Build, you can use the following commands:
perl Build.PL
./Build
./Build test
./Build install

After installing, you can find documentation for this module with the perldoc command.
